About Parent to Parent POWER

Parent to Parent POWER is a Non-Profit Community Parent Resource Center, located in Tacoma, and Seattle, Washington, serving Asian Families of children with disabilities since 1981. Funded by the United States Department of Education, our mission is to provide information and training to families, thus empowering them to become better advocates for their children.

We provide additional and unique services for which we are not currently receiving grants or donations. These services include providing transportation, translation and interpretation assistance, educational workshops, community activities, and social events for both parents and children.

We also provide a unique Community Resource Center called "The Welcome Room". Our facility provides parents with access to resource materials and the internet, as well as providing them the opportunity to receive one on one counseling.

Parent to Parent POWER, Extension Programs

We have recently initiated our second C.A.S.P.E.R. program (Community After School Program for Education & Recreation) in Tacoma. Our North King County C.A.S.P.E.R. has been providing children and families with weekly support meetings since October 2001. Our mission in this program is to allow parents time to socialize with other parents who share similar interests and circumstances in their everyday lives.

We also have a planned annual "Zoo Day" at the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium during our Summer C.A.S.P.E.R. program. This will be providing a Day at the Zoo along with a picnic.

The mission also provides children access to educational and recreational services such as our 2002 Project Green Thumb Program.  This program provided the children with the opportunity to experience planting, maintaining, and eventually picking vegetables off of their own plants in the fall. This was an opportunity for the children to interact and to socialize amongst themselves, as well as an educational process.

We have many other programs that we are planning at this time. However, as a non-profit status organization, we are limited in what can be accomplished with our current funding. We ask that you too, become part of our community wide programs and services, by donating to our organization. In return, you will receive our Parent to Parent POWER Quarterly Newsletter, which will provide you and our community readers with a thorough explanation of how your generous donations are utilized. Additionally, upon your approval, you will be listed within our web site, www.p2ppower.org as being a "Valuable Community Sponsor" to our organization.

Provided within this packet, you will find a list of tangible items that we are seeking to continue our planned community projects. If you find that you do not have or cannot donate any items listed, please consider Cash Donations.

We at Parent to Parent POWER, Staff, Volunteers, Parents, and Children, wish to thank you for learning more about us, and hope you will donate to our organization so that our services can continue to inspire our families and children.
