VOLUNTEERS and SPONSORS

Parent to Parent Power Volunteers and Sponsors

Work performed by volunteers is vital to any non-profit organization. When the word "volunteer" is spoken, most think of "free work and no compensation". However, there are many issues not covered when we refer to volunteers. Volunteers perform vital duties in and out of an office setting. Such services include visiting with parents or individuals, providing transportation, caring for a child during scheduled meetings, running errands, finishing office work, translating written materials, interpreting during meetings, and completing other services which staff members can not accomplish on a daily basis.

It is true that volunteers do not earn a wage or salary, however, our volunteers are compensated for mileage, materials and any money spent while performing duties as a volunteer. In select cases, compensation for time is permissible. This will be covered in part during your initial interview session. The process in which a volunteer is considered includes an initial interview to determine exactly what you as a volunteer may be interested in.

Volunteering is considered a working status and should be placed on your resume as a working experience. When polled, a large number of employers stated that "persons who have been actively involved in their community would be considered for employment, due to their willingness and dedication to help others in need." Along with the polled interviews with employers, they have also learned that those who show an act of compassion and dedication prove to them that "people who are active within their community prove to be punctual and dedicated to their work".

Our Quarterly Training and Information Workshops will be held at the Parkland Library on Pacific Avenue.  If you have considered and would like to be a Parent to Parent POWER Volunteer and need directions please contact Yvone Link at 253-531-2022 or 253-531-0246
